About Girls Action
Founded in 1995, Girls Action Foundation is a national charitable organization advancing the empowerment of girls, young women, and people with lived experiences of misogyny across Turtle Island (Canada). At Girls Action, we envision a world where these individuals have access to the resources, opportunities, and support to realize their full potential. Working in collaboration with members across the country, Girls Action is committed to building a movement of active, engaged individuals and organizations across Canada working towards a more just, equitable, and inclusive world. Girls Action is currently a non-hierarchical organization that values each individual who contributes to its mission, no matter their title.
Responsibilities include governance, fundraising, and strategic planning, among other responsibilities. The Board and Staff meet once a month to discuss matters to further the organization's goals. There are additional ad hoc committee meetings.
We are particularly looking for people who have a solid understanding of financial management, chair experience, legal expertise, HR skills, as well as other skills and strong motivations.
Time investment, engaging & gatherings:
The Board of Directors term of office is two years with the average time investment of 4-12 hours per month.
As Girls Action Foundation Board and Staff members are in different physical locations, we meet and operate primarily online.
Experience is valued
Note, especially to queer, trans, non-binary, Black, Indigenous, racialized, disabled, and other equity-seeking folks: Girls Action Foundation recognizes that we function within systems and structures that create significant barriers that may cause people to self-exclude from opportunities to work with us. We encourage you to apply if you are excited about the vision of the Girls Action Foundation and share with us how you would like to contribute. We value a wide range of paid or unpaid experience and formal education. To this end, please note that any and all relevant experience will be considered, regardless of whether it was in the realm of work, schooling, home life, or otherwise.
Application equity
People from marginalized communities, including but not limited to: women, indigenous people, differently-abled people, people of color, queer and trans people, and people of low socioeconomic status, are especially encouraged to apply. Please indicate if you consider yourself to be a member of a traditionally disadvantaged group and would like to be considered as such for this application process.
Application deadline: Applications will start to be reviewed after June 5, 2023, and will continue to be accepted on a rolling basis until the right candidates are voted. Interviews will begin the week of June 19, 2023.
Ideal Start Date: July 3, 2023
